Boy from the Forge

David Delgado Rueda, known as "Niño de la Fragua" (Boy of the Forge), was born in Almería in 1985. He received his nickname directly from his grandfather, who ran a forge as a family business. His passion for blacksmithing comes from his family; he began learning from his father, Miguel Delgado, and later from the master blacksmith Paco López.

In 2001, she received a scholarship from the Cristina Heeren Flamenco Art Foundation and studied with masters such as Manolo Franco and Miguel Ángel Cortés. She then began competing, winning several awards, including:

  • 1st Prize «Sabicas» and 1st Prize «Habichuela» at the Calasparra International Flamenco Competition 2002
  • 3rd Prize in the Calasparra International Flamenco Competition 2004
  • 1st Prize in the Accompaniment Competition organized by the Cristina Heeren Foundation of Flamenco Art (Cordoba 2005)

He has played for all generations of artists from Almería, and for masters such as José Merce, Vicente Soto Sordera, Rancapino Chico, Luis de Lebrija, Jose Anillo, India Martinez, Rubito de Pará Hijo, Juan Gómez, Rocio Segura, Niño de Elche, Alfredo Tejada, Diego Villegas, Zarrita, Maria Toledo, El Titi, Antonio Canales, Belen López, El Piculabe…

His guitar playing is featured in "Entre Quejíos y Pitas", ANTONIA - Short Film, "CATUNAMBÚ" Commercial, Zarrita's Paper Men, "From Huércal to Jerez. Blinded by Flamenco" by El Titi, "Almería Up Close" by Luís el de la Venta, Almeraya by Cristo Heredia…
