A Sephardic Jewish Iranian woman from New York, flamenco dancer Leilah Broukhim settled in Spain in 2000. Leilah graduated from Columbia University with a degree in Film Studies. She began her flamenco training with teachers in New York, who provided her with the necessary foundation to continue her development in Spain. Once in Madrid, she continued her studies at the Amor de Dios academy under renowned masters, including María Magdalena, Manuel Reyes, Rafaela Carrasco, and José Maya, while also furthering her training in Seville with Los Farrucos.
Her professional career began with two of the most important flamenco companies in the United States: Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana and María Benítez Teatro Flamenco. Leilah performed in Spain's leading flamenco venues: Casa Patas, El Corral de la Morería, El Café de Chinitas, Las Carboneras, Tablao Villa Rosa, and El Cordobés. She was a member of the companies of Rafael Amargo, Paco Peña, and Javier Barón. In 2006, she traveled to Japan to teach and perform at the esteemed Sala Andaluza in Tokyo. Leilah starred in the official promotional video for the Centro Sefarad-Israel.
